Website Update
28/07/10 - Website Update
So the website update is
progressing well and a large amount of the out of date content has been
removed, although we still have some way to go. The forums have been pruned
back to a bare minimum, and it would be good to come up with a way of increasing
the usage of these forums. I suppose the goal is to use these forums as
a way of encouraging debate across the community, although whether people
will embrace such an open forum for debate would be challenging.
Content sourcing is starting to improve with some members of the community,
providing feedback on events. I'll keep e-mailing everyone on a regular
basis to try and get people into the habit of providing data for the site,
the more data that we have the more valid the site will be.
Interest has been shown by members of the community improving the image
handling on the site. At present, the two of Gigha provides small thumbnail
images that can be expanded to a decent size image. However, some of these
are not the best depiction of Gigha, and there are many keen, good photographers,
currently on the island. I am looking at ways of adding to the gallery.
However as this is not technically feasible. We will merely provide an external
link to a Flickr account that already exists, which has some excellent pictures
of Gigha.
There has been some very good feedback on the speed with which news items
appear on the site. It is important that news items appear quickly, as locals
will then start coming to rely on the site as a means of finding out relevant
current information. Thanks to everyone who has provided support for this.
