Supporting Communities Fund

Supporting Communities Fund – May 2020

The Isle of Gigha Heritage Trust has been awarded £11,000 from the Scottish Government Supporting Communities Fund, via Highlands and Island’s Enterprise, to support the island during the COVID-19 crisis.

On 18 March, Aileen Campbell MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Communities and Local Government announced an investment of £350 million to support local communities and households in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.  These funds include the ‘Supporting Communities Fund’ which has been established with an initial £10 million investment.

Highlands and Islands Enterprise is distributing the funds on behalf of the Scottish Government to eligible community anchor organisations within the Highlands and Islands.

The £11,000 secured by IGHT will support activities that directly support residents and businesses on the island. This will include temporarily employing a COVID-19 Volunteer Co-ordinator based on island together with a small Fund to support local response efforts.

Ian Wilson Chair of the Trust said: ‘This is a very worrying time for Gigha, its residents and businesses. None of us can be sure what the long term impacts for our community will be but this is very welcome support from HIE and the Scottish Government that can help us provide very quick and local help.'
